Help with the cost of hearing aids.
Hearing aid costs vary with the technology and features you choose. Before you buy, it helps to know which programs can offset the cost.
Ontario's Assistive Devices Program
The ADP covers part of the cost of hearing aids for eligible Ontario residents. First you need an assessment from a qualified hearing professional. They recommend a device and help you apply. See Ontario's hearing-devices program.
Insurance and employer plans
Many private or employer-based health plans pay part of the cost of hearing aids and assistive devices. Check what your plan covers before you buy. Ask whether the clinic can bill your insurer directly.
Tax credits
You can claim hearing devices as eligible medical expenses on your income tax return. The Canada Revenue Agency's Disability Tax Credit may also apply. Ask about it even if you are not sure you qualify.
Ask around before you decide
Other seniors with hearing loss often know about funding sources that are not widely advertised. Ask them. When you compare devices, make sure the quote spells out Bluetooth, batteries, warranties, and service plans. Hearing aid types and technology (Canadian Hearing Services).
