A new Project Officer for FICS
To lead the FICS project, the Branch has hired a part time Project Officer who is hard of hearing and brings years of disability advocacy experience from across Ontario.
To lead the Fostering Inclusive Communication for Seniors with Hearing Loss (FICS) project, the Branch has hired a part time Project Officer who is hard of hearing and brings extensive experience in disability advocacy across Ontario.
The position is funded through the FICS grant awarded in September 2025, which also includes administrative support funding. The Treasurer's report notes that this has strengthened the Branch's capacity and raised the visibility of CHHA-NCR in the community.
The role covers project coordination and delivery: running training for seniors who are hard of hearing and for the people who work and volunteer with them, building outreach with community host sites, and meeting the data collection and reporting expectations of the national FICS partnership.
In the first reporting period, November 2025 to June 2026, the portfolio moved from planning into active community engagement, including the May 29, 2026 workshop on inclusive communication and support for seniors with hearing loss.
