AGM 2026: reports to the membership now online

The reports from the 2026 Annual General Meeting are now online for members to read. The meeting was held on June 10, 2026, scheduled earlier in the year than usual to avoid winter travel difficulties.

President Michel David described the past seven months as a period of meaningful revitalization, focused on strengthening the administrative foundation of the Branch. The Board secured a dedicated mailbox and updated the mailing address, moved banking to the Royal Bank of Canada to allow electronic payments and online financial records, and secured the website development service behind this site.

Advocacy continued through the year. Judy Michel represents CHHA-NCR on The Ottawa Hospital Accessibility Committee, reviewing accessibility plans across the hospital campuses with particular attention to the new Civic campus planned for Carling Avenue, and also represented the Branch in the University of Ottawa's Emergency Preparedness Consultation on accessible disaster risk communication. Board members took part in seminars and workshops with the City of Ottawa's Accessibility Office, and the Branch worked with the CHHA-Edmonton Branch on captioner training and with the Association of Hearing Instrument Practitioners of Ontario on changes to the Assistive Devices Program.

The reports also name the challenges honestly: the Branch is still seeking volunteers to help create website content by attending local events and reviewing them through a hard of hearing lens, full administrative access to the Facebook page is unresolved, and the lack of a permanent meeting space remains a significant barrier.
